Francesco Aymerich got his PhD in Mechanical Design at the University of Cagliari in 1993 and became assistant professor in Machine Design at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Cagliari in 1994. From 2005 to 2015 he was associate professor and from 2015 he is full professor in Machine Design at the Department of  Mechanical, Chemical and Materials Engineering of the University of Cagliari.
His research activities are mainly oriented towards the characterization, analysis and modelling of fracture, fatigue and impact behaviour of polymeric composite materials.
He has carried out research on identification and assessment of damage in composite laminates at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Sheffield  University (UK)in 1991 and 2000 and on the behaviour of stitched composites at the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics of Purdue University (USA) in 1999.
He has partecipated in various national and international research projects and has served as a reviewer for international journals in the field of composite materials and non-destructive testing.
He is author or coauthor of more than 160 scientific papers published in international journals or in proceedings of international and national conferences.
