02 July 2025
On July 14 and 15, Campus Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Building M, Room B1. It will be the seminar course Generative Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Rights_ The Case of Copyright Law.

---

The course is taught by Prof. Massimo Farina and Dr. Alessia Palladino and aims to explore the intersection between generative artificial intelligence and copyright law, analyzing the legal, ethical, and technological challenges posed by AI-generated content. Students will gain an in-depth understanding of how copyright principles apply to machine-created works, the implications for intellectual property rights holders, and the emerging regulatory frameworks across different jurisdictions.

The course consists of a total of 8 hours over two days. It is primarily intended for PhD students of the DRIEI program. A final oral exam is required for 1 CFR credit.

The Course Program is outlined below

16 February 2026
On 25, 26, and 27 February 2026, three days of intensive and interactive seminars covering various thematic areas within the field of electrical energy will take place in Aula 7 (Clinica Aresu).

---

The lectures are supplemented by 9 virtual lectures presented by distinguished invited guest speakers from Italy, the UK, Australia, California, Spain, Germany, and Sweden with empirical applications and innovative business models directly relevant to the topics of the lectures.
The attendees shall get exposure to a wide range of issues on the economics, business, technology, environment and regulatory aspects of the rapidly evolving electric power sector. A multiple-choice test at the end will evaluate how much of the delivered content was absorbed and retained by the attendees.
There will be a test at the end of lectures to evaluate how much of the delivered content was absorbed and retained by the attendees.

05 June 2026
"From June 15 to 19, 2026, Campus Via Maernego, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture Building B (former freshman/sophomore building), Room B, a five-day intensive seminar on magnetohydrodynamics."

---

Dr. Kalvis Kravalis (University of Latvia, Institute of Physics), Visiting Professor under the DIEE Department of Excellence 2023–2027 Project, will give a five-day course on "Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) in Liquid-Metal Systems: Experiments and Measurement Techniques."

15 June 2026
Please be informed that the DRIEI PhD Day 2026 will take place on 14 July 2026 in the Aula Magna.

---

The event will be organized as follows:

-first-year PhD students will present a poster, accompanied by a
3-minute pitch

-second-year PhD students will give an oral presentation in plenary,
organized as a single session

The event will also be open to research fellows and research
collaborators, who will be invited to present their activities through
posters. This initiative was proposed by the IEEE Student Branch of
UniCA.

18 June 2026
A 24-hour seminar on Software Security and Protection will be held in July. The seminar is open to students enrolled in the MSc in Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence (2 credits) or the PhD Program in Electronic and Computer Engineering (3 credits). The seminar will encompass multiple aspects of the broad field of software security.

A 24-hour seminar on Software Security and Protection will be held in July. The seminar will be held by Dr. Leonardo Regano and Dr. Alessandro Sanna, and is open to students enrolled in the MSc in Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence (2 credits) or the PhD Program in Electronic and Computer Engineering (3 credits). The seminar will encompass multiple aspects of the broad field of software security.

Indeed, the importance of software security cannot be underestimated in the Digital Age when software underpins all aspects of our daily lives. The urgent need for strong security measures has been highlighted recently in the context of real-world examples such as ransomware attacks leveraging software vulnerabilities. Indeed, risk should be managed in all the phases of the software lifecycle, from application design to continuous monitoring after deployment to manage newly discovered vulnerabilities and threats.

This course encompasses multiple aspects in the broad field of software security, covering threat modeling techniques to ensure sound choices during application design, secure software development techniques, software testing techniques to ease vulnerability discovery, and software protection techniques to safeguard the application’s assets against reverse engineering attacks. Practical classes will be included to present real-world examples of common software vulnerabilities and valuable hands-on experience with automated software testing and protection tools.

Requirements

The student must have appropriate knowledge of the C programming language. A basic knowledge of the x86 Assembly language is optional but recommended.

Exam

The exam will take place as a group (3/4 students) project. To take the exam, each student must attend in person at least 4 of the 6 scheduled classes. Each group will analyze an application to find vulnerabilities and secure it against possible attacks using the automatic tools presented in the course. More information on the examination modalities will be given during the seminar.
