Epidemic-like spreading in Social Networks

Abstract:

 
In this talk, a brief introduction into graph and network theory for the modeling of infectious diseases is presented. To this end, important definitions such as cluster coefficient and centrality are introduced.
Moreover, a method for modeling infectious diseases, namely the SIS-Model, is presented and the application of these models is demonstrated.

Applying Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition Techniques to Biology

Abstract:
 
An introduction to the use of R for machine learning approaches is given.
Examples from real world, particular from biomedical research, are shown to demonstrate the potential of machine learning in biomedicine, especially for the use in protein classification, HIV drug resistance prediction and classification of psychological diseases.
