In Escherichia coli approximately 40% of the cellular energy is devoted to protein synthesis, a process that is carried out by the ribosome.
Accordingly, the synthesis and activity of the ribosome is a highly coordinated process such that this significant energy expenditure is
balanced with environmental conditions. RsgA (ribosome small subunit-
dependent GTPase A) is an extra-ribosomal protein that is presumed to play a role in ribosome assembly and/or regulating the process of protein synthesis. We will present a preliminary cryo-EM analysis of a complex with RsgA bound to the E. coli 30S subunit.
