The Department of Biomedical Sciences (DiSB) was established on January 1, 2012, pursuant to Law 240/2010 concerning the organization of universities.
The DiSB serves as a center for research and advanced education in the field of biomedical sciences, playing a fundamental role in the cultural, economic, and social landscape of Sardinia. Its organizational structure includes: 18 Full Professors, 29 Associate Professors, 16 Tenured Researchers, and 15 Fixed-Term Researchers. The department also includes 7 Research Fellows, 45 PhD students, and 122 Postgraduated students.
DiSB's research spans a wide range of biomedical topics and fosters numerous local, national, and international collaborations. The department hosts the local branches of the Institute of Neuroscience of the National Research Council (CNR) and the “Guy Everett” Laboratory, and it is home to research centers focused on various neuropsychiatric disorders. DiSB's activities are also supported by its faculty’s ability to attract funding from public institutions and private companies at the local, national, and international levels.
DiSB is responsible for teaching subjects such as anatomy, histology, pharmacology, pathology, child neuropsychiatry, microbiology, virology, biology, physiology, and biochemistry in degree programs offered by the Faculties of Biology and Pharmacy, Medicine and Surgery, Science, Engineering, and Education Sciences.
DiSB is the reference department for the Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Laboratory Techniques within the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. It also hosts the PhD programs in Neuroscience and in Molecular and Translational Medicine, as well as the Specialization Schools in Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, Microbiology and Virology, Clinical Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry, and Food Science.
