Microbiology and Virology

The current Section of Microbiology and Virology is composed of faculty members who are affiliated with various Faculties for their teaching activities. The group from Biological Sciences, coordinated by Prof. Paolo La Colla, focuses its scientific interests on General Virology and antiviral drugs, as well as on Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnologies. The group from the Faculty of Pharmacy, coordinated by Prof. Raffaello Pompei, is mainly dedicated to the study of antimicrobial drugs, Biomedical and Environmental Biotechnologies, and the Molecular Epidemiology of bacterial and viral infections. The Medical Microbiology group, coordinated by Prof. Aldo Manzin, conducts its scientific research primarily in the field of Clinical Microbiology and Virology.
The faculty members of the Section of Microbiology and Virology are involved in teaching and advanced training in the degree programs of the Faculties of Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy, and Biology, in the School of Specialization in Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology, in the PhD program in Research and Development of Anti-Infective Drugs, and in the PhD program in Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology in collaboration with the Catholic University of Rome.
