The Master Programme in Environmental and Land Engineering allows to obtain an advanced scientific and professional training with specific engineering skills in its own interdisciplinary fields, through a broad common path in which the knowledge considered most important for the professional figure we want to train is consolidated. In particular, after having deepened the aspects of mathematical modelling, the planned training activities aim to provide an in-depth knowledge of the methods of soil investigation and monitoring of environments at risk of pollution or polluted, of the intervention technologies aimed at the remediation of contaminated sites, as well as of the modelling aspects related to environmental processes and phenomena referring in particular to both surface and groundwater. It also offers a preparation on the technology of geographic information systems, a tool now essential for an engineer who deals with the environment and the territory. The student will then be able to deepen specific thematic areas with the choice of one of the three curricula provided: Environmental Remediation Technologies, Geo-engineering and Land Protection, Spatial and Environmental Planning.
The Curriculum Environmental Remediation Technologies is aimed at understanding the environmental problems related to anthropogenic activities and their impact; to the advanced design, construction and management of treatment works for supply water, civil and industrial wastewater, gaseous effluents and solid waste; to the sustainable solid waste management, resource recovery and bio-energy production.
The Geo-engineering and Land Protection curriculum is aimed at the recognition, prevention and rehabilitation of the phenomena of hydrogeological instability, slope instability, restoration and management of river basins, coastal regime, analysis of the main elements and problems of implementation and physical principles on the coasts, design and verification of defense works, study and geological-technical characterization of the soil related to works and analysis of the relative interactions, cultivation methods and excavations, mining and mineralurgical landfills, evaluation of the consequences of engineering interventions and their correct sizing.
The Spatial and Environmental Planning curriculum aims to deepen the following aspects: planning from macro-scale to micro-scale, analysis of both general, implementation and sector plans (municipal urban plans, detailed plans, waste management plans, etc.), and complex programs with particular attention to management aspects; economic planning, sustainable management, prevention and containment of the environmental and social impact and risk of the extractive industry.
