THE STUDY PROGRAM IS AWAITING INITIAL ACCREDITATION.

Once accreditation is obtained, it will be active starting from the academic year 2024/2025

The Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery is structured as a single-cycle degree lasting six years and access is programmed with a single national ranking test.
Graduates can work as medical surgeons in the various clinical, health and bio-medical roles and areas, they can practise as general practitioners (subject to completion of the three-year specific training course in General Medicine), they can access Specialisation Schools in the various branches of Medicine and Surgery, PhDs and second-level Masters courses, and they can devote themselves to research activities in all sectors of the bio-medical area.

The Single-Cycle Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery (CdLMCU-MED-ENG) was created with the aim of providing the scientific foundations and theoretical-practical preparation necessary to exercise the medical profession so as to be able  to operate a modern medicine that ranges from research to health promotion, from disease prevention and treatment to rehabilitation, also in international contexts, providing the development of cultural and educational elements capable of maximizing preparation and work opportunities in a dynamic and international context. The CdLMCU-MED-ENG also offers advantages for those stundents who wish to practice the medical profession in Italy. The course was designed not only to broaden job prospects but also to facilitate stronger links with postgraduate programs, which frequently provide content exclusively in English and conduct joint activities with international universities

The CdLMCU-MED-ENG is subject to national admission and admission is subject to passing an admission test.

The course is divided into six academic years and provides for the acquisition of 360 credits. The educational activities are organised in two semesters for each year; the activities consist of lectures (attendance is compulsory) and internship activities.

The CdLMCU-MED-ENG allows access to third-cycle studies (PhD and School of Specialisation) and second-level university masters.

The extremely high expected demand for doctors at national and international level for the next 15 years makes it conceivable that they will be easily and quickly employed upon completion of the CdLMCU-MED-ENG.

The specific aim of the CdLMCU-MED-ENG is to educate surgeons to a European and international professional standard. These surgeons will be focused on health issues, wellness, and care, possessing a heightened readiness to tackle future medical challenges. They will be aware of the multidisciplinary nature of the profession while also being equipped with comprehensive, cross-disciplinary, and interprofessional knowledge.

The first year includes an introduction of the student to the basic concepts of the medical profession (Medical Humanities), followed by the acquisition of basic knowledge preliminary to the understanding of physiological and pathophysiological principles such as biochemistry and physics. Tissue and molecular organization of organs are also addressed, and a first aid course brings the student immediately closer to the clinical dimension.

The second year is devoted to understanding the morphology and normal functioning of organs, which is developed through the integration of anatomy, physiology and biochemistry. In this year, the approach to the study of disease mechanisms through pathology and immunology also begins, up to the first basic practical approaches

From the third to the fifth year, the didactic system is aimed at the acquisition of clinical skills, through integrated courses in which diagnostics, clinical, surgical, pathological anatomy and pharmacology are treated in an integrated manner, and internships allow for the experimentation, verification and putting into practice of what is shared in the integrated courses.

Finally, the sixth year is focused on the objective of promoting and stimulating clinical reasoning skills in the student: clinical cases - medical and surgical, also of emergency situations - will allow the appropriate application and integration of the knowledge and scientific method learned previously together with the comparison with aspects of communication with patients and family members and the managerial management of clinical cases in the most appropriate care setting to ensure continuity of care. As part of the sixth year of the course, second semester, are included the Practical Evaluative Traineeships for the State Examination (TPVES) (pursuant to Ministerial Decree 9 May 2018, no. 58 and subsequent D.P.C.M. and D.M.), which allow access to the final exam for obtaining the Master's Degree with Professional Licence. The TPVES envisage 3 periods of compulsory attendance by students, supervised by one or more tutors, of 100 hours each, to be carried out in disciplines in the areas of General Surgery, General Medicine and Internal Medicine. In total, the three periods of TPVES will allow students to acquire 15 CFUs, for a total of 375 hours (300 hours of attendance and 75 hours of individual reflection), following the certification of suitability by the tutors of reference, subject to validation by the CoS Coordinator.

Finally, the preparation of the thesis - planned in advance - is an important formative moment for the maturation of original speculative skills based on the scientific method.

Attainment of a Master's Degree in Medicine and Surgery with simultaneous Licensing to practice as a Doctor-Surgeon will allow immediate Registration with the Order of Surgeons and Dentists, which is necessary for subsequent enrolment in a School of Specialisation or Specific Training Course in General Medicine.

Details of the organisation and teaching content can be found on the course website.
