Abstract

Academic achievement, personality factors, motivational processes, and self-system: Towards a multifactorial, interactive and integrated perspective - A long standing research tradition has been devoted to the study of the factors that can affect academic achievement. Several empirical studies have confirmed the importance of personality factors, of motivational processes and of the self-system. However, often, results appear to be partial and contradictory. For this reason, the complex nature of the topic suggests the need to investigate this issue from a multi-factorial and integrated perspective. The present study examines the literature about this topic, from primary school to university, with the principal aim of highlighting the reasons that justify the need of a multi-factorial, interactive and integrated perspective on the problem. In this framework, the review is divided into three main sections: Personality factors (Extraversion, Neurotcism, Psychoticism, Big-Five); Motivation and self-representations (possible-selves, selfesteem); Multi-Factorial, interactive, integrated perspective. : Academic .
