Abstract

Comics are often seen as a sub-genre of literature, instead of being judged as a genre itself, and it's very common now-a-days to ear the definition of “graphic novel”. Although this definition, a great part of the so called “graphic novels” are not fiction at all. In this article I try to underline the importance of saving the memory of terrible historical events through the medium of the comic, focusing my analysis on three Peruvian works published in Lima in recent years. The three of them deal with historical and social events happened in the last part of the XX century; they use images and words in order to preserve the memory, make the audience know more about their country and rise a democratic consciousness.
