Abstract

The mitigation of the ringing effects on a dual active bridge (DAB) converter by implementing a planar transformer has been investigated. Specifically, the consequences associated with the stray capacitances of planar transformers have been analysed and modelled, referring to a specific case study. The analysis of input and output impedances shows that the positioning and distribution of leakage inductors influence the mitigation of current ringing phenomena. In order to validate the assumptions of impedance analysis, a case study was first simulated and finally experimentally tested. Comparing simulation and experimental results for different positions and distribution of DAB leakage inductors highlights that they affect the ringing effect frequency, distribution and magnitude impacting the solutions for their mitigation.
