Rovine archeologiche nei territori fragili. Nuovi approcci tra conoscenza e progetto in due opere di Toni Gironès

Abstract

This paper is part of the articulated debate concerning the rehabilitation of ‘fragile’ territories, interstitial, discarded places, inhabited by architectures in a state of ruin that accentuate their fragmentary and dilapidated character. Among these ruins, however, the archaeological ones can contribute to reinforcing the identity of the places, assuming a new role as a symbol of the redemption witness of the past, through their recovery and use. From this reflection on ‘fragile’ and ‘in-between’ territories, two case studies have been selected because illustrate how knowledge, analysis and intervention project deeply question the sense of continuity in relation to archaeological ruins and their potential: the sites of Can Tacò and Forns, the subject of the recovery project by the Catalan architect Toni Girones within the network of Roman-era architecture in the commercial and industrial periphery of Barcelona. Through them, a new way of rethinking these places is proposed, starting from their resilience, from the understanding of the silent processes of change that led them to their current condition of social, economic and political ‘waste’, and from the knowledge and re-design of what remains.
