Abstract

The essay analyzes the development of trade and manufacturing in the Apennine valleys of the Tuscan, Emilian and Romagna ridges between the late Middle Ages and early modern times. Specific insights concern, on the one hand, the manufacture of iron, wool and leather; on the other, trade relations between the mountain areas and the cities.
