Abstract
The reaction of 2-cyanoacetamidines 1 with carbon suboxide 2 afforded 6-amino-4-hydroxy-2(1H)-pyridones 4. Compounds 4 were also obtained by reaction of amidines 1 and 2,4,6-trichlorophenylmalonates 3.
