The Mediterranean Town in Question

Abstract

This chapter offers a re"ection on the paradigm of ‘the Mediterranean town’. The approach suggested does not attempt to de!ne ‘the’ Mediterranean town as such, by attributing it a status with scienti!c credentials. Rather, this is a paradigm that is both foundational and vulnerable, the latter being durable, in a dialectic which expresses multidisciplinary thinking on the urbanism and scienti!c invention of the Mediterranean. Many works on this topic nevertheless attempt to describe this type of model, to justify it in an a priori ‘positive’ approach that assumes the reality of the object, without elucidating other than in ideological terms the theoretical foundationsof its objecti!cation, formalization and actuality (if we adopt Foucault’s terminology).
