Abstract

Since ancient times, marriage was characterized by a marked asymmetry of power between husband and wife that thinkers argued was natural. In this essay, taking as a starting point Wollstonecraft's criticism of the laws and customs that governed it, the thoughts on this institution of some 19th-century thinkers will be examined: Anna Wheeler, William Thompson, Robert Owen and Frances Wright, because their arguments provided and still provide tools of analysis capable of refuting inveterate prejudices.

Desde la antigüedad, el matrimonio se caracterizaba por una marcada asimetría de poder entre marido y mujer que los pensadores consideraban natural. En este ensayo, tomando como punto de partida la crítica de Wollstonecraft a las leyes y costumbres que la regían, se analizará el pensamiento sobre esta institución de algunos ensadores del siglo XIX: Anna Wheeler, William Thompson, Robert Owen y Frances Wright, porque sus argumentos proporcionaron y proporcionan herramientas de análisis capaces de refutar prejuicios inveterados.
