Abstract

Satellite communications are becoming increasingly important due to their use in new application fields and their integration with new generation networks. A crucial aspect that slows down the development of satellite communication is still the cost of performing research: in fact, the implementation and test of new algorithms and technologies requires a costly infrastructure, that rarely is available for being used for research purposes. For this reason we propose in this paper an open source simulator modeled for a satellite network for broadband internet service access. To test its functionality, consider the congestion problem and QoS optimization for multimedia broadband traffic management.
