Abstract

Wide bandwidth requirement is one of the main challenging issues in 5G antenna technology. To satisfy this, the design of a stacked low-profile patch antenna is proposed. The design has been optimized via an optimization tool based on Particle Swarm Optimization integrated with the finite integration technique (FIT). The proper shaping of the objective function allows to balance between the requirement of wide band operation and the maintenance of a certain margin in simulated performance to take into account the potential performance degradation in the manufactured device. The proposed objective function allows to tune a balancing between the bandwidth maximization and the maintenance of a certain margin in simulated result to take into account the potential performance degradation in the manufactured device. A bandwidth larger than 5 GHz has been obtained in the desired frequency range.
