Etica e estetica medievale vs. contemporaneità: tentativi di dialogo

Abstract

Outside the academic context, contemporaneity offers a reading of the Middle Ages –notwithstanding the limits of a nostalgic and dreamlike transfiguration of the era – which nevertheless highlights the fundamental and persistent value attributed to the core of ethical and medieval aesthetics. The philologist's task is thus to identify a path that, starting from the concrete individual and historical realization of these instances – as depicted in the texts -, allows the link between the two eras to be re-established, drawing from the past what is needed for the present.

La lettura che la contemporaneità offre del Medioevo al di fuori del contesto accademico – pur con i limiti connessi ad una trasfigurazione in chiave nostalgica e onirica di tale epoca – pone comunque in luce la fondamentale e persistente valenza attribuita ai nuclei portanti della riflessione etica ed estetica medioevale. Compito del filologo è dunque l’individuazione di un percorso che, a partire dalla concreta realizzazione individuale e storica – realizzata nei testi – di tali istanze, permetta di riannodare il legame tra le due epoche, traendo dal passato ciò che serve al presente.
