Abstract
The paper intends to propose a new examination of the sarcophagus found in Albano Laziale (Rome) in 1913, sculpted with plutei and doves. For many years it was thought to be Christian and dated to the 5th-6th C., but then it was classified among the 3rd C. pagan funerary plastic artifacts, because of crossed shields on the lateral faces. The new analysis would lead to bring the find back to the cultural context initially proposed. Starting from this idea, I tried to contextualize it both in the historical events of the site of the discovery (Albano Laziale) both in the context of the use of sarcophagi beyond the Roman and early Christian periods.File | Size | Format | |
