Abstract
This paper provides an analysis of the jargon of the underworld in the town of Cagliari, on the basis of the data collected in the 1930s by Max Leopold Wagner and Ugo Pellis. The main purpose of this work is to reconstruct the path of some jargon forms that have penetrated in colloquial Cagliari Sardinian and regional Italian. To do this, data collected through interviews were combined with an analysis of the jargon forms in literature. This methodology allowed us not only to retrieve records of a large number of what were originally jargon forms in contemporary colloquial varieties, but also to associate them with various contexts of use. In this way, it was possible to identify the functions assumed by the different lexemes in relation to different contexts.File | Size | Format | |
