Sonechio ‘solecchio’ nel Liber ystoriarum Romanorum: un’etimologia incastonata nella storia del testo

Abstract

The time has left its trace in the word sonechio of the illuminated manuscript 151 in scrin. of the Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Hamburg. The word, which is used only in the illustrated copy of a roman text of the XIII century, doesn’t live anymore in the Italian language and literature: it means ‘canopy’, that is the big umbrella of the official ceremonies, but seems to have been remade as ‘bell’. To understanding the meaning of the word, it’s necessary to look at the frescoes of the roman church of SS. Quattro Coronati that were the patterns of the miniatures of the ms. and, contemporary, at the history of the text which is connected with the Constitutum Constantini and with the modern world of the XIII century.
