Abstract

This article surveys selected international developments affecting legal issues in sexual orientation and gender identity during 2018.1 Among other developments described in this article, India repealed its sodomy law, the Supreme Courts of the United States and the United Kingdom each ruled on the rights of bakers who objected to making cakes for same-sex weddings or in support of same-sex marriage, and the number of nations recognizing same-sex marriage increased to twenty-six.2 Other countries, such as Italy, have made progress toward equality for same-sex persons but still fall short of full equality.3 But in many other countries, LGBTI persons are still subject to discrimination, harassment, and violence.
