Abstract

A new Brønsted acid catalysed solvent-free cascade reaction consisting of a ring closure-ring fission process between α-arylaminocyclobutanones and alcohols has been established, providing highly functionalised 3-(2-alkoxyethyl)indoles in good to excellent yields.
