Abstract

The production of wooden simulacra of Saint Efisio experienced an intensification as a consequence for the miracles performed by the saint. Among the most famous specimens is the one carried in procession on January 15th, Holy Thursday and Easter Monday. Made in 1763 by Giuseppe Antonio Lonis, it has been taken as a model for many 18th century statues and in turn derives from the small-scale prototype of the “Museo del Duomo” of Cagliari, dated 1759. To the late 17th century dates back the realisation of the small Sant’Efisio, realized by an unknown local operator and donated in 2015 to the Archconfraternity of the Gonfalone.
