Abstract

The collection and analysis of Big Data will revolutionize the insurance industry. They facilitate the knowledge of potential customers and the identification of their risk profile and improve the competitiveness of products and services offered. Despite the huge benefits that may ensue in terms of business activity development, the use of Big Data is problematic. The main problems relate to the personal character of the analyzed data and the possible conflict between their treatment and the privacy protection. Therefore, it must assess whether if new, stricter regulatory and supervisory actions on their management of the data by economic operators are necessary.
