Abstract

The aim of this work is to evaluate the correlation between the mechanical and metabolic energy, during the gait cycle of a subject equipped with and without energy storage devices called "Jump Stilts". In order to calculate the mechanical energy, as first step, a video of the moevement was recorded. Then, the video was post-processed to obtain the sagittal trajectories of eleven geometric points located opportunely on the subject. Finally, a multi-bodies model of the subject motion was implemented providing the mechanical energy during the gait. On the other hand, the metabolic energy was acquired via a portable metabolic meter during the gait of the subject.
