On some loci uexati in Apuleius' Florida

Abstract

The present contribution forms part of wider editorial work on Apuleius' Florida and De magia; it is based on an extensive study of the manuscript tradition that has basically confirmed Laur. Plut. 68.2 (= F), saec. xi, as the likely ancestor of all the extant tradition. The paper discusses most of the loci uexati in Florida, where the text I intend to propose diverges from that found in all current editions. This sometimes involves restoration of hitherto needlessly altered readings of the best manuscripts, while at other times conjectural adjustments, previously neglected or unknown to other modern editors, are adopted.
