Abstract

The paper suggests that a specific local fiscal policy can be applied to the less developed European regions, particularly to the South of Italy, in order to capture foreign direct investment (FDI) necessary to boost economic development and solve the problem of catching up with the more developed European regions. This policy must be addressed to increase new invesment projects coming from abroad, by appling a corporate tax rate which must be smaller than that in force in developed regions, in order to be really competitive in attracting FDI.
