Abstract

The design procedure of a magnetic gear transmission (MaGT) suitable for high-speed electric propulsion system is presented in this paper. First, analytical magnetic and mechanical MaGT models are introduced. These enable the design of both single-stage and double-stage MaGTs by a multiparameter optimization procedure, which aims at achieving a high gear ratio by minimizing the active machine volume at the same time. The designed MaGTs are compared to each other in order to highlight the superior performances of the double-stage MaGT, especially in terms of size and maximum speed. An accurate Finite Element Analysis is carried out as well, which aims to validate the analytical results from both mechanical and magnetic points of view.
