Abstract
The continuous consumption of soil resource is particularly evident in urban and metropolitan areas. The research evaluates the effectiveness of the regional landscape planning in the urban growth containment. The study analyzes the expansion of urbanized areas within the territory of Cagliari metropolitan city and the coherence between demographic trends, housing needs assessment and design of new residential areas in municipal urban plans updated to the Landscape Regional Plan.
