The study of the Fort St. Ignatius in Cagliari is a larger significant piece of a larger research on the analysis and dating of the construction techniques of Sardinia, from the Judicial to the Savoy periods. While the monument being studied from a historical profile represents an innovative military model for the history of the defense of the island, from a technical and constructive point of view it is a particularly significant model in the context of ongoing studies, so it can be taken as the cornerstone in the composition of the general framework of the chronotypical references of the island. The accurate archival research has made available an extensive documentary production through which it was possible to clarify the military history and construction of the fort and give it a precise date and a relatively precise date for the walls. The metric analysis, material and stratigraphy of the masonries, from the southern front of the casemate body, was conducted through the development of, also for this type of asset, a strict interdisciplinary protocol of investigation, which led to the chronotypical types and variants of the construction techniques used for the construction of the fort, which can be compared with other case studies, as well as being taken as an absolute chronological reference for philological dating of structures not otherwise characterized in terms of time.
