Abstract
Between 1934 and 1940, Nazi Germany indirectly entrusted Leni Riefenstahl with the task of diffusing the image of a powerful Third Reich all over the world. Her films were distributed in both allied nations and opposing, potentially hostile countries, with the aim of encouraging a positive (if not explicitly supportive) attitude towards German policies, as well as encouraging subjection for restored power. Her works are not simply propaganda films, but real Nazi monuments that are striking in terms of their greatness, and disturbing for their majesty. Beginning with the observations made by Jan Assmann, this essay underlines the identity value of these works, and retraces the main stages of their international circulation.File | Size | Format | |
