Tra norma e capriccio. Una proposta di lettura per la fontana manierista di Rosello di Sassari; Between Norm and Capriccio. A Proposal for the Mannerist Fountain of Rosello in Sassari

Abstract

This contribution offers a reflection on the architectural model behind the Fountain of Rosello in Sassari, built according to the mannerist language in the first five years of the seventeenth century. Although there are documentary references, there are no informations about the origin of marbles and statues, nor about the designer and the craftsmen. The comparison with some late sixteenth century cabinets allows to advance the proposal that the Rosello Fountain may have been designed by one of the many architects working to the papal building sites in Rome and to design of this particular type of furniture for the patrician houses.

Il contributo avanza una riflessione sul modello architettonico alla base della Fontana di Rosello di Sassari, realizzata secondo il linguaggio manierista nel primo lustro del Seicento. Nonostante non manchino riferimenti documentari, non si hanno notizie circa la provenienza dei marmi e delle statue, né sugli autori del progetto e della edificazione dell’opera. Il confronto con alcuni stipi di fine Cinquecento consente di avanzare la proposta che la Fontana di Rosello possa essere stata disegnata da uno dei tanti architetti attivi a Roma nei cantieri papali e nella progettazione di questo particolare tipo di arredo per le dimore patrizie.
