Sustainable mobility in urban areas

Abstract

Nowadays the populations living in urban areas increasing daily. Urban planning is being forced to address issues of environmental and social impacts in people and stresses on natural resources. Roads have a key role for human activities: they are the first step which leads to the urban structure. In this regard, numerous researchers from different disciplines have written numerous scientific papers on the topic of “sustainable mobility”. This paper provides an overview of policy for sustainable transport in the urban context. A good system of sustainable transportation is that served by the innovations in transportation practice. It is possible to identify four policies of intervention in order to obtain a good sustainable transportation system: new mobility, city logistics, intelligent system management and livability and functionality.
