CURRENT POSITION
Anna Maria Mandas is an Associate Professor of Roman Law and the Foundations of European Law (GIUR-15/A) at the Department of Law, University of Cagliari.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
She graduated summa cum laude from the Faculty of Law at the University of Cagliari in the a.y. 2008/09. Until 2017, she served as assistant lecturer for the courses 'Institutions of Roman Law' and 'History of Roman Law' at the same Department. In 2010, she was awarded a scholarship to attend the doctoral program in '‘Ius Publicum Europaeum. Teoria e Storia del diritto e delle istituzioni' at the University of Siena, where she earned her PhD. Her thesis, titled 'Il processo a Saulo di Tarso. Gli Atti degli Apostoli come documento giuridico,' was supervised by Prof. Emanuele Stolfi.
SCIENTIFIC AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
From 1° October 2021 to 30 September 2024, she served as a researcher (full-time), as per Article 24, paragraph 3, letter B of Law 240/2010, in the 'Roman Law and Rights of Antiquity' at the Department of Law, University of Cagliari.
Prior to that, from 9 October 2020 to 30 September 2021, she worked as a research fellow at the same department. The title of the project was “Donne, diritti e tutele in diritto romano”.
From 2 October 2017 to 1° October 2020, she held a temporary full-time researcher position, according to Article 24, paragraph 3, letter A of Law 240/2010, in “Roman Law and Rights of Antiquity”.
In 2017, she won a selection process for a research grant titled 'Differenze di genere e processo nel tardo antico', under the supervision of Prof. Maria Virginia Sanna. This grant was part of the project 'TVerso la parità di genere: donne nella storia, nelle istituzioni, nel diritto e nella società', funded by the Fondazione di Sardegna. Additionally, from December 2014 to July 2016, she was a research fellow at the Department of Law, University of Cagliari, working on the project 'Conciliare, Arbitrare, Mediare: alle origini dell'episcopalis audientia', which was funded by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia (L.R. 2007, annuality 2012, P.I.: Prof. Francesco Cordopatri).
In 2019, she won the selection for two research grants aimed at supporting research activities at the Leopold Wenger Institute for Legal History, specifically in the fields of Ancient Legal History and Papyrus Research (LMU Munich). These grants were promoted by the Region of Sardinia under the Mobilità Giovani Ricercatori (MGR) Program. Additionally, she received funding from DAAD (Deutsche Akademischer Austauschdienst). The title of her research project was “The Crime of Torture in Roman Law: A Historical and Comparative Analysis". Furthermore, she was awarded the MOSTA mobility grant for the academic years 2020/2021 and 2022/2023. As part of this grant, she participated in a teaching week in EU countries (Erasmus+) at the Universidad de Vigo, Faculty of Law, in May 2022.
EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
29 April 2024, Introduction and coordination of the lecture by Professor Maria José Bravo Bosch titled "Legal Feminism in Byzantium and Current Reality." This event was organized as part of the Start-Up Project "Regulatory Tools for Countering Gender Discrimination," under the intervention line "Interdisciplinary Research Initiatives on Issues of Cross-Cutting Relevance for the PNRR" (CUP F25F21002720001)
15 September 2023: Guest lecturer for the course Derecho Romano (PCEO ADE - Derecho) taught by Professor María José Bravo Bosch at the Universidad de Vigo, Facultade de Dereito, as part of the MOSTA mobility grant for the academic year 2022/2023
28 April 2023: Lecture on "Some Considerations on the Subject of Torture in the Roman Legal Experience" for the Doctorate in Legal Sciences program at the University of Cagliari
14 April 2023: Lecture on "Relevance of Conception" at the School of Specialization for Legal Professions of Cagliari, as part of the Fundamentals of European Law module
