Dr. Simone Porcu is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Cagliari (Italy). He received a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Cagliari, Italy, in 2015, a master's degree in computer science in 2017 and a Ph. D. in Electronic and Computer Engineering from the University of Cagliari in 2021. He also obtained the Doctor Europaeus title for his research period abroad at the Technische Universitat Berlin (September 2018-March 2019). Simone has been a member of the Net4U Lab (https://net4u.diee.unica.it/) at the University of Cagliari since 2017, a member of the Italian University Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT) in 2018, and a member of the IEEE since 2018. He has published 9 articles in international journals and 22 papers at international conferences. His research interests are multimedia communication focused on multimedia quality of experience, deep learning, computer vision, and human behaviour.

·        07/2019–07/2020: Technical evaluator for business projects on behalf of the Digital Enterprise Point of the Chamber of Commerce of Cagliari–Oristano. The work focused on assessing projects submitted by companies under the Digital Voucher I4.0 program, particularly analyzing the compliance of the implemented intervention with the initial funding request for voucher liquidation.

Educat ion:

·        23/02/2021: Doctoral degree in Electronic and Computer Engineering obtained from the University of Cagliari, Cagliari. The research activity focused on the study of Quality of Experience (QoE) and the creation of artificial intelligence (AI) models based on physical parameters of subjects for QoE prediction. Specifically, the thesis led to the development of a system to predict user-perceived QoE based on facial expressions and gaze movements. By monitoring facial and eye movements, the AI system can understand user satisfaction levels during multimedia system usage. Thesis Title: “Estimation of QoE for video streaming services based on facial expressions and gaze direction.”

·        19/09/2017: Master’s degree in Computer Science obtained from the University of Cagliari, Cagliari Grade: 110/110 with honours (Lode).

·        11/2017–01/2021: Research fellow for the project “NETERGIT – Applied Research on M2M Communication Networks and Innovative Integrated Modems for Advanced Services in Smart Cities.” Funded by the PON–REC Smart Cities and Communities and Social Innovation Call, 2012. ·        01/2020–present: Research unit member for the project “MONIFIVE – Secure, Reliable, and Intelligent Distributed Monitoring on 5G Technologies: Application to Mobility and Water Services” (http://moni5g.it). ·        01/2020–present: Research unit member for the project “MyPasS: Mobility for Passengers as a Service.” The project aims to test technological and operational solutions in two pilot sites, Cagliari and Naples, with the ambition of improving urban mobility and creating significant economic impacts in the field of ITS and transportation. Funded by the Ministry of Education.

·        2022–2023: Research unit member for the project “Smart Justice: Tools and Models to Optimize Judges’ Work.” Funded by the Ministry of Justice. Partners: University of Palermo (lead partner), Catania, Messina, Cagliari, and Sassari.
