Sebastiano Seatzu, now retired, has been a full professor of numerical analysis at the University of Cagliari in Italy since 1980. His primary research area is numerical analysis. He has been coeditor of 2 books and coauthor of 2 books and has coauthored 85 publications, mostly published ininternational journals. He has also coauthored several papers in physics and chemical physics. His papers in the past 15 years have mainly been on numerical solutions of integral equations of the first kind, numerical linear algebra of structured matrices, and numerical solution of ill-conditioned systems of linear equations. His current scientific interests include numerical solution of integral equations with structured kernels, numerical solution of nonlinear evolution equations, and analytical and numerical methods related to the design of photonic crystals. He is co-editor of Calcolo and associate editor of Advances in Computational Mathematics.
Prof. Seatzu graduated with honors with a physics degree from the University of Cagliari in 1965 and did research on theoretical physics during 1965-1968 as an assistant professor of analysis in Cagliari. He then switched his research area to numerical analysis as he worked as a professor of
analysis in Cagliari during 1968-1980, primarily working on approximation theory, numerical solution of integral equations of the first kind, parameter identification in systems of ODEs, and numerical solution of systems of linear equations governed by mono- and multi-indexed structured matrices.  During 1981-1995 Prof. Seatzu also served as a professor of operations research.
In Cagliari, Prof. Seatzu was the Chair of Electrical Engineering Degree Council during 1980-1994, the Chair of the Department of Mathematics during 1986-1989, the Chair of the Ph.D. School of Mathematics and Informatics during 2003-2010, and the Coordinator of the Numerical Analysis and Mathematical Modelling Group during 2007-2010.

He also served as the Chair of the Cagliari branch of UMI (Italian Mathematical Society) during 1994-1999 and the Chair of the Cagliari branch of INDAM (National Institute of Higher Mathematics) during 1994-2010.
Prof. Seatzu has also held various relevant positions at the national level. He contributed to the founding of the CRS4  (Center for Advanced Studies, Research and Development in Sardinia) andwas a member of its scientific board during 1993-1999. He was a member of the scientific board of GNIM (Numerical and Mathematical Informatics Group) of CNR (National Research Council) during 1997-2000, and he became a member of the scientific board of GNCS (National Scientific Computation Group of INDAM) during 2000-2008.

In October 2011 the International Conference on Scientific Computing (SC 2011) has been organized in Santa Margherita di Pula at the occasion of the 70th birthday of Proff.s Claude Brezinski and Sebastiano Seatzu. This conference has been attended by scientists from 39 countries who have given 176 talks.
