Massimo Farina is  Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DIEE), University of Cagliari. He obtained the National Scientific Qualification Second Level (Associate professor) for the Sector 12/H3 - IUS/20.

He received a MSc. in Law at the University of Cagliari and a PhD degree in “Law and New Technologies” at the University of Bologna (CIRSFID). Moreover, Massimo Farina obtained the Second level Masters in “Computer law, theory and technique of legislation” (University of Roma, “Sapienza”), in “Data Protection Officer and privacy law” (university of Napoli, “Suor Orsola Benincasa”) and “Internet of Humans and Things” (University of Roma, “Tor Vergata”).

Adjunct Professor of "Legal Computer Science" and "Digital Forensic" in the Master's Degree Course in Internet Technology Engineering, and Professor of "computer Law" in the Master's Degree Course in Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence, at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Cagliari.

Msassimo Farina is Data Protection Officer (DPO), according to Article 37 of EU Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR) at University of Cagliari and Director of university laboratory "ICT4Law & Forensics" set up at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Cagliari.

Member of ANDIG (Associazione Nazionale dei Docenti di Informatica Giuridica e di Diritto dell’Informatica) and of CNIT (Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Telecomunicazioni).

Since 2007, he is "Research Fellows" of the Networks for Humans laboratory (Net4U) (formerly Multimedia & Communications Laboratory - MCLab), Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Cagliari and since 2017 he is " Affiliate Scholar ”of the Information Society Law Center - Coordinated Research Center in" Information Society Law, "Department of law “C. Beccaria”, University of Milan.

Massimo Farina main research topics concern personal data protection, e-government, e-health, legal protection of software, artificial intelligence and robotics, computer crimes and digital forensics.

In the A.Y. 2015/2016 he was the holder of a research grant under the MARCO POLO program for the scientific training abroad of young researchers (University of Bologna) and in the A.Y. 2018/2019 he was scientific director of the Young Researchers Mobility Program (MGR) of the University of Cagliari.

Since 2019 he has participated as Keystaff and as a member of the Quality control committee in the three-year "Jean Monnet" project entitled "European Citizens' data protection, data governance and cybersecurity: fundamental rights and personal data processing in big data era" - Department of Law, University of Milan.

He has published various monographs, volume contributions and numerous articles in scientific journals on the most diverse topics of legal informatics and IT law.

Co-Director of the series "Information Technology and New Technologies" Key Editions and member of the editorial committee of the Scientific Journals "Ciberspazio e Legge" (directed by Prof. Giovanni Ziccardi - Mucchi publisher) and "Electronic Journal of Law, Economics, Management "(directed by Prof. Donato A. Limone - Publisher Clioedu).
