Luigi Atzori is Full Professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Cagliari (Italy) and Research Associate at the Multimedia Communications  Laboratory of CNIT (Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Telecomunicazioni). Dr. Atzori received his Ph.D.  degree in electronic engineering and computer science from the University  of Cagliari  in 2000. He spent the seven months from November  2003 to May 2004 at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Arizona, as Fulbright Visiting Scholar.

Atzori research interests are in quality of experience management for multimedia communications and the definition of novel architectures and management of resources for the Internet of Things. He has published more than 150 journal articles and peer-reviewed conference papers, and has one national patent. His research has been funded by European, national, regional and industrial grants. He has been the coordinator of the Marie Curie Initial Training Network on QoE for multimedia services (qoenet-itn.eu) in the period 2015-2018, which involved ten European Institutions in Europe and one in South Korea.

Luigi Atzori is senior member of IEEE (since 2009), has been chair of the Steering Committee of the IEEE Multimedia Communications Committee (MMTC) and co-chair of the IEEE 1907.1 standard on “Network-Adaptive Quality of Experience (QoE) Management Scheme for Real-Time Mobile Video Communications”.
He has been the editor for the ACM/Springer Wireless Networks Journal and guest editor for many journals, including the IEEE Communications Magazine, the Springer Monet and the Elsevier Signal Processing: Image Communications Journals. He has been a member of the steering committee for the IEEE Trans. on Multimedia, member of the editorial board of the IEEE IoT and of the Elsevier Ad Hoc Networks. He is currently member of the editorial board of the Elsevier Journal of Digital Communications and Networks and of IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society. He served as a technical program chair for various international conferences and workshops. He served as a reviewer and panelist for many funding agencies, including H2020, FP7, Cost and Italian MIUR.
