Department of Mathematics and Computer Science

Giuseppe Rodriguez was born in Carbonia, near Cagliari (Italy), on April 7, 1963. He graduated with honors in Mathematics at the University of Cagliari in 1988. He has been a researcher (ricercatore universitario) in Numerical Analysis at the University of Cagliari between 1991 and 1998, and associate professor (professore associato) of Numerical Analysis at the University of Rome ``Tor Vergata'' from 1998 till 2001 and at the University of Cagliari from 2001 till 2019. Since 2019 he holds the position of full professor at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Cagliari. He has been the coordinator of the Ph.D. program in Mathematics and Scientific Computing between 2012 and 2016, and of the Ph.D. program in Mathematics and Computer Science between 2013, the year of its foundation, and 2018. He is editor, software editor, and managing editor of Electronic Transactions on Numerical Analysis (ETNA), editor and software editor of Numerical Algorithms, editor of Journal of Scientific Computing, and referee of various international journals. He is a member of the Italian Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIMAI). He is the author or co-author of more than 100 papers, mostly published in international journals, and of two textbooks of Numerical Analysis. He has given talks, also as an invited speaker, in international conferences held in various countries. His scientific activity involves the following topics: the numerical solution of Fredholm integral equations of the first kind; orthogonalization techniques; the factorization of structured matrices, in particular of Toeplitz matrices (either scalar or block, finite or infinite, monoindex or multiindex, possibly perturbed), and the solution of the corresponding systems of linear equations; the factorization of matrix polynomials; the use of regularization techniques for the solution of ill-conditioned linear and nonlinear systems of equations; the numerical methods for the analysis of complex networks; the numerical solution of some kind of partial differential equation; the development of computational software.
