In 1995, Francesco Delogu got the Master Degree in Chemistry summa cum laude at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Sassari, in collaboration with the Innovative Materials Division, Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and the Environment (ENEA), at the Research Center in La Casaccia, Rome.

In the same year, he got an international Ph.D. position in Materials Science, funded by ENEA and supervised by Prof. Giorgio Cocco, Department of Chemistry of the University of Sassari. He successfully defended the Ph.D. thesis in 1999,

In 2000, he got a permanent position at the University of Cagliari, Italy, as Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical, Chemical, and Materials Engineering.

His research activity focuses on experimental and theoretical aspects of Materials Science including the kinetics and thermodynamics of mechanically and thermally activated phase transformations, the stability of nanometer-sized systems, the mechanical properties of amorphous phases and nanoporous metals.

In 2003, he was awarded as “Distinguished Young Scientist” by the Advisory Committee of the International Association of Mechanochemistry.

He is author, or co-author, of more than 280 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed international journals as well as of various book chapters. He is Co-Editor of two books and is member of the Advisory Editorial Board of various international peer-reviewed scientific journals.

He is, or has been, unit coordinator, or member, in several international research projects:

FP7 Collaborative Project, NMP.2010.2.5-1, Multiscale Modelling and Materials by Design of interface-controlled Radiation Damage in Crystalline Materials (RADINTERFACES) - coordinator;
