He graduated in Chemical Engineering at the University of Cagliari in 1995. He then obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Pisa in 1998.

He worked as Process Control Engineer at Sartec Company (Saras Tecnologie) from 1998 to 1999, serving at Saras Refinery (Sarroch, Cagliari). From 1999 to 2000 he worked as Researcher at CRS4 - Center for Research and Advanced Studies in Sardinia (Macchiareddu, Cagliari). He was subsequently a Research Fellow at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials, University of Cagliari from 2000 to 2002. From 2002 to 2015 he has been Researcher of the concurrent grouping "Principles of Chemical Engineering" at the University of Cagliari. Since 2015 he is an associate professor.

He was "visiting scholar" at the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Virginia (Charlottesville, USA) from March to July 2000, at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, University of California (Davis, USA) from September to December 2003, and at the Center of Life and Food Sciences Weihenstephan, Process Systems Engineering, of Technischen Universitaet Muenchen (Freising, Germany) from July to August 2010.

At the University of Cagliari, he is currently teaching the course of Chemical and Biological Reactors (Master Degree in Chemical Engineering) and the course of "Applicazioni di BioIngegneria Chimica" (Bachelor Degree in Biomedical Engineering).

His research interests concern kinetics, reactorics and transport phenomena in chemical and biological multiphase systems, with particular reference to mathematical modeling of expansion, differentiation and cryopreservation of stem cells, adsorption and ion exchange systems of heavy metals and organic compounds on synthetic and natural materials (clinoptilolite), gas-liquid reactions (oxidation of p-xylene to terephthalic acid), synthesis of innovative materials. 

He is co-author of about 70 publications on national and international journals, and about 100 presentations at national and international conferences.
