Dipartimento di Ingegneria Meccanica, Chimica e dei Materiali

Francesco Cambuli attained his degree in Mechanical Enigeering in 1994, and the Ph.D. in Mechanical Design in 1998, both from the University of Cagliari (Italy). Since the end of 2002 he is an assistant professor at the Department of Mechanical, Chemical and Materials Engineering (DIMCM), University of Cagliari.

In 1994, after his degree, he spent six months at the Research and Developments Laboratory of Woods Ltd, Colchester (UK), mainly evaluating  the acoustic performance of industrial fans in anechoic environment. In 1997, during his Ph.D. period, he worked at the Department of Applied Mathematics, Florida State University, Tallahassee (FL), under the supervision of Prof. C. K. W. Tam, in a research focused on non-reflecting boundary conditions for Computational Aeroacoustics.

(last update in May 2021)

During his educational activity, he has taught the courses of Numerical Modeling of Fluid Systems (2005-2013) and Numerical Solution of PDE (2008-2010). He now teaches Basic Thermodynamics to the undergraduate students in Mechanical Engineering.

The research activity is mainly addressed to the field of Turbomachinery, developed with experimental and numerical (CFD) methods. Currently, the main topics are the evaluation of aerothermal performance of gas turbine blades, and the aerodynamic analysis of Wells turbine, a device for collecting sea waves energy.
