Simone Arena graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 2012 at the University of Cagliari (Italy) and he holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Design in 2016 at the same university. He has been a Research Associate at the Department of Mechanical, Chemical and Materials Engineering of the University of Cagliari, where he worked on numerical simulation and experimental analysis of sensible and latent heat thermal energy storage systems for industrial application. He has been a Visiting Researcher at Plataforma Solar de Almeria (Spain) in 2014 and at GREiA Research Group, University of Lleida (Spain) in 2015.

He currently is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical, Chemical and Materials Engineering of the University of Cagliari from 2020, where he lectures the “Maintenance Management of Engineering Assets” course. His research focuses on the field of maintenance and reliability management with specific concern to statistical and machine learning algorithms for condition-based maintenance and predictive maintenance. Other areas of interest are related to condition monitoring, diagnostics technique, model simulation, data analytics, smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 concepts, Machine Learning for failure prediction, ergonomics in logistic and industrial systems. He has been a Visiting Researcher at the Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering of Politecnico di Milano (Italy) in 2019 and at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering of NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology – Trondheim, Norway)
