Active Participation in University Orientation Initiatives

Each year, with the direct contribution of professors, the Degree Programs ensure their presence at Orientation Days targeted at 11th and 12th grade students from all secondary schools across Sardinia. These events present the educational offerings and related career opportunities. Teachers are available to answer questions or provide further insights. Graduates, PhD students, and professionals are usually involved in these meetings to share research and professional experiences related to the specific fields of study.

As part of the PNRR project Active School–University Transition 2022–2026, the University promotes various orientation initiatives managed directly by departments, with support from the Faculty’s orientation service. Each department has proposed 15-hour orientation courses based on active, participatory, and hands-on disciplinary teaching. These aim to introduce students to the themes and application of the department research area and help them make more informed choices about their educational and professional development.

The University also ensures its annual participation in events such as the Job Day organized by ASPAL–Sardinia Region, OrientaSardegna, and other potential regional and national events.

Organization of Specific Initiatives

The Faculty has established its own Orientation Committee, which coordinates orientation activities across the various Degree Programs.

In particular, the Faculty annually organizes the event Porte Aperte a Ingegneria e Architettura (Open Doors in Engineering and Architecture), during which all Degree Programs actively contribute to welcoming new prospective students (both undergraduate and graduate). The event offers a wide range of activities and experiences.

Initially held only on the Cagliari campus, starting from the 2023/24 academic year, the event now spans several days and takes place in multiple locations across Sardinia—Cagliari, Alghero, Olbia, and Nuoro—to encourage participation from schools located farther from the regional capital. During these events, students have the opportunity to interact directly with teachers, researchers, and current students to learn about the courses, educational paths, potential career outcomes, and departmental research activities.

Faculty Orientation Services

In addition to specific initiatives, orientation services are always provided by the Faculty’s Educational Managers, the Student Office, and the Orientation tutor.
The Faculty also collaborates with selected student ambassadors, who are specifically chosen to offer front-desk support. They provide initial information about the Faculty’s degree programs and help guide students to the appropriate offices.

Activities for Secondary School Students

The University of Cagliari offers a series of guidance initiatives for high school students, designed to deepen their understanding of the academic programs available and to strengthen their skills in preparation for university studies.
