Paleontology, Paleoecology, Biostratigraphy (GEO/01)

Stratigraphic, Structural, and Geodynamic Geology (GEO/02 – GEO/03)

Integration of geological, stratigraphic, and structural methodologies with new analytical techniques for tectonic-sedimentary evolution, geological interpretation, and 3D modeling of crystalline basements and sedimentary covers. Sequence stratigraphy of Paleozoic successions. Role of the Sardinian-Corsican microplate in the Cenozoic geodynamic framework of the central-western Mediterranean. Stratigraphy and Neogene-Quaternary evolution of the continental shelf. Paleoenvironmental reconstructions through the analysis of continental deposits in Sardinia.

Geomorphology and Geodynamics of Continental Margins (GEO/02 – GEO/04)

Seismic analysis of deep structures and Miocene-to-Holocene series; sampling and analysis of seafloor cores; stratigraphy and geomorphology of the continental shelf edge and slopes; slope process dynamics and morphodynamics of submarine canyons. Erosive processes (riverbank, coastal, levee, and coastal landslides) and depositional processes (determination of river relevance zones), with special regard to the destructive effects of geomorphological dynamics, as well as hazard and risk assessments. Morphodynamics and sedimentology of beach systems. Geoarchaeological studies: paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic reconstruction during the Quaternary; human-environment interaction across prehistoric, protohistoric, and historical periods.

Applied Geology and Soil Science (GEO/05 – AGR/14)

Soil protection and conservation, with particular reference to land degradation phenomena threatening soil resources (erosion, pollution, salinization). Analysis of slope instability and tools for the protection and rational management of slopes. Exploitation of groundwater and its qualitative and quantitative protection. Investigations for identifying deep structures hosting thermal aquifers.

Geochemistry and Mineralogy (GEO/06 – GEO/08 – GEO/09)

Study of geochemical and mineralogical processes in abandoned mining areas for the prevention and containment of environmental risk. Study of natural and synthetic hydrotalcite-like phases for capturing inorganic contaminants in anionic form (As and Sb). Genesis and growth of minerals under exogenous conditions; biominerals. Evaluation of Sardinia's geothermal potential.

Petrology and Applied Petrography (GEO/07 – GEO/09)

Petrology of crystalline basements. Metamorphic evolution of collisional belts. Petrogenesis and pressure-temperature trajectories of medium-to-high grade and high-pressure metamorphic rocks. Petrographic studies for the preservation and enhancement of cultural heritage.
