Discover Innovative Solutions in the Circular Bioeconomy – Join the EDUC Summer School in Cagliari!
Are you a Master’s or PhD student passionate about researching sustainable solutions, circular bioeconomy, and global environmental challenges? The EDUC Alliance invites you to participate in the Blended Research Summer School (BRSS) organized by the University of Cagliari.
About the BRSS
The BRSS, titled “Circular Bioeconomy for Sustainable Waste Management and Resource Recovery,” will focus on the analysis of innovative solutions for sustainable waste management. This programme offers a unique opportunity that combines research, innovation, and practical applications in the field of circular bioeconomy.
The EDUC Blended Research Summer School will take place online in May and June, while the in-person sessions will be held at the University of Cagliari – Engineering Campus from 29 June to 3 July 2026.
All activities will be conducted in English and represent an important opportunity to develop advanced research skills, including data analysis and problem-solving, within the context of circular bioeconomy. Lectures, group activities, networking events, and debates will create a stimulating learning environment. It will also be an opportunity to collaborate and exchange ideas with students from partner universities and to interact with experts and researchers in the field.
The Summer School will also provide opportunities to work collaboratively with students from partner universities, interact with experts and researchers in the field, and participate in practical working sessions. At the end of the programme, participants will prepare a final presentation and will receive a certificate of completion recognizing their achievements.
The recognition of the course and the related credits (3 ECTS) will be subject to evaluation by the students’ respective degree programmes. Students will therefore need to apply for recognition according to the procedures and deadlines established by their own study regulations.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the BRSS, students will have developed or enhanced the following competences:
- Critical Thinking: Participants will develop the ability to critically evaluate current practices in materials and waste management, including through the analysis of scientific articles, and propose innovative and sustainable solutions.
- Research Skills: Students will gain experience in conducting advanced research, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation, leading to a deeper understanding of the principles of circular bioeconomy.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: The BRSS will enable students to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and approaches.
- Environmental Awareness: Participants will complete the programme with a deeper understanding of current environmental challenges and with tools to contribute to sustainable solutions.
Eligibility
The BRSS is open to students from different academic backgrounds, including but not limited to: Environmental science, Environmental, Chemical and Civil Engineering, Biology, Chemistry and other related fields.
While there are no specific prerequisites for participation, a genuine interest in sustainability, circular bioeconomy, and a commitment to addressing material and waste management challenges are highly encouraged. Having a basic understanding of research principles is beneficial but not mandatory. Additionally, a good command of the English language, both in understanding and speaking, is necessary to fully engage in the program's activities and discussions.
