Abstract
At the climax of his multifaceted career, extended from theatre to literature, cinema and television, from 1979 Carmelo Bene proposed on the Italian stages a hybrid genre that had undoubtedly been minor in the history of European theater, but that played a crucial role in the development of the relations between the arts of the stage and the music. For Bene, the ‘adventure’ into the melologues repertoire was, on the one hand, the result of intuitions and sensibility shared with some of the protagonists of the music scene of those years; on the other hand, it was the result of historical paths and cultural heritage, investigated in this study, which consent to trace some unexpected sources in the poetics of the famous Italian actor.
