Abstract
Energy efficiency, sustainability and low environmental impact are now part of the current design lexis and concerning, in the most extreme dimensional scales, both new and existing buildings. Particularly important is the need to provide for redevelopment interventions on the vast building heritage prior to the 90s, often composed of significant, even if minimalist, architectural episodes. Electrochromic technology is certainly, among innovative solutions, those that can contribute, in a relevant way, to the achievement of excellent results in relation to the energy efficiency of buildings. It is more and more widely used and studied, especially in the USA, in its classic application, but it has other interesting potential related to the optical characteristics of the material, when used to shape envelopes. The colour change of the panels, in fact, allows reaching important results also in relation to the quantity, quality and variety of the light inside the rooms with considerable benefits, as well from the psychological point of view, for users. The paper, based on these premises, proposes a redevelopment study for the exercises classroom in the Genetics Institute (now Department of Science of Life and Environment), of Cagliari University. The lack of maintenance and the obvious problems of the internal climatic conditions, due to the orientation and the large glazed surfaces, have caused the gradual disposal of the use (now simply reduced to deposit of documents and texts). A minimally invasive intervention that involves the maintenance of existing metal frames and the replacement of the original glass panels (still present) with the EC ones, will allow to easily achieve a state of internal comfort such as to bring the space back to its original planned use. The new internal performances will be evaluated through a simulation that will allow to verify the climatic conditions reached and to quantify the lighting parameters in the different seasonal irradiation phases.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
